Responsibility
Education as the Key to a Better Life: Our Commitment to the Nafasi Foundation
As a company, we carry responsibility in three dimensions: ecological, economic and social. That’s why we have supported the Nafasi Foundation for many years, an organisation dedicated to helping children, young people and women in Tanzania. Its guiding principle: “Help me to do it myself.”
For little Ali, an orphan, the future was more than uncertain. As one of the first children in the Nafasi programme, he was able to flourish in a safe environment with regular meals, school lessons and holiday care. He is curious, loves learning and enjoys reading. And just recently, he even graduated from primary school as the top student of his class!

Education is the most effective way out of poverty
Empowering people to help themselves creates lasting impact. That convinced us to get involved and to donate 5% of our annual profit to Nafasi.
These funds are used where they are needed most: for education and safe living conditions. The foundation runs projects that provide knowledge and strengthen self-reliance, such as:
- A home, school attendance and meals for children
- Washable sanitary pads, including education and information materials, so girls don’t have to miss school during their period. Otherwise they could lose up to 60 school days a year.
- A school garden that combines food security with environmental education
- Sewing courses that teach practical skills for everyday life
Currently, the largest project is in the spotlight: building a secondary school with boarding facilities
For children from disadvantaged families, orphans and half-orphans, education often ends after primary school at around 13 years old. For others in the community, the journey to a secondary school is too far – and during the rainy season, often impassable.
Nafasi wants to change this with the school construction:
- Building a secondary school for 240 children in Kahe
- Including boarding facilities and integrated vocational training (metalwork, carpentry, bakery)
- Scholarships for half of the places, so orphans and children from poor backgrounds can attend
Construction is well advanced. However, Nafasi still needs support for vocational training equipment, the start of school operations in 2027, library resources, scholarships and a school vehicle.
Ali and several other children will start attending a secondary school in Moshi from January, funded through sponsorships. For them, this means being far away from their family community. That’s why everyone is looking forward to the new school opening in 2027, when they can return to their friends.
